Mandalay Region Forest Department plans to grow more than 1,800 acres of forest in the coming rainy season next year, according to Director Office of Mandalay Region Forest Department

During this year, the department has set up commercial teak and Padauk plantations in Mogok, Thabeikkyin, Singu and Thazi Townships in Mandalay Region. In addition, the department established forest plantations and village firewood plantations in Pyin Oo Lwin and the watershed areas of Yewar Dam and village firewood plantations in Wandwin and Mahlaing Townships in Meiktila District, said Tint Swe, Director of Mandalay Region Forest Department.

“The department establishes the forest plantations after drafting the plans every year. In the rainy season this year, the department established 2,055 acres of forest plantations—901 acres of teak, 600 acres of Padauk and 544 acres of forest plantations in the watershed areas by using the Union budget. In the rainy season of 2019, plans are under way to grow 1,810 acres of forest plantations—1,210 acres of teak, 600 acres of Padauk and 275 acres of forest plantations in the watershed areas. The department separately establishes commercial teak and Padauk plantations, watershed plantations and firewood plantations,” added Tint Swe.

The establishment of watershed plantations in Pyin Oo Lwin Township aims to conserve the watershed areas near Yewar Dam. The department also establishes the commercial plantations in Singu and Madaya Townships to conserve the watershed area of Sedawgyi dam.
