Man jailed for 60 years for killing one monk, two nuns

Yangon East District Court has sentenced a 40-year-old man to 60 years in prison for killing a monk and two nuns in East Dagon Township, Yangon Region, according to East District Police Force.

The deputy district judge (2) found the man guilty of murders and he was sentenced to 20 years each in prison under Section 302 (2) of the Penal Code of Myanmar for killing three people.

The final verdict came four months after the case happened.

In connection with the case, the man living in East Dagon Township attacked a monk and two nuns from the Buddhist monastery next to his home with a two feet and six inches long sword on July 11 this year and all the three died.

The man then turned himself in to the police station concerned on July 14. He admitted that he committed the murders after his family was being forced to move house by the three persons he killed.
