NAY PYI TAW- Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan arrived in Nay Pyi Taw on October 9 for a one-day visit to hold talks with the Myanmar government, according to a statement from the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.
The visit, which takes place during Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship, aims to discuss Myanmar’s upcoming elections and to push for progress on the stalled peace process.
During his stay, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan is scheduled to meet State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, and Foreign Minister U Than Swe.
Since 2022, Myanmar’s government leaders have been barred from attending ASEAN meetings due to what the bloc described as insufficient progress in implementing the Five-Point Consensus adopted following the 2021 military takeover.
In its statement, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said Minister Mohamad Hasan will urge Myanmar to take concrete steps toward peace, including ending armed conflicts, ensuring unhindered humanitarian access, and initiating inclusive dialogue with all relevant stakeholders.
