Kutkai Township medical superintendent Dr. Wint Wint Myaing was shot to death in Kutkai Township, Muse District, in northern Shan State when she returned from Mongsee, Tarmoenyae for COVID-19 vaccination on December 14 at 7:00 pm.

“Dr.Wint Wint Myaing and team after returning from COVID-19 vaccination work in Tarmoenyae and Mongsee, when they arrived between Naungcho and Mawhan village, a group of armed men stopped the car and ordered her to leave from the car. Then, they shot her four or five times at her face. The rest of the medical team was freed this morning. It’s really dark when the medical superintendent and her team arrived from vaccination. Her dead body was retrieved in the middle of the night,” said a local of Kutkai Township.

It was not known that which group carried out the killing. No armed group claimed the responsibility for killing her. Her body was transported to her home via social philanthropic vehicle.

She was a non CDM doctor and worked nearly 20 years at the Kutkai Township hospital. She always urged her fellow medical staff and doctors not to involve in the CDM movement according to locals. She opened the hospital and treated COVID-19 patients and other diseases after February and while the other hospitals were closed.

Concerning the incident, contacts were made to Kutkai Township police station but no communications were made.
