Karen organizations belonging to the Karen Unity and Peace Committee (KUPC) are urged to play their active role in helping organize the Karen National Union (KNU) to participate again in official meetings related to Myanmar's ongoing peace process, according to the resolution made by the 10th meeting of KUPC.

The meeting took place at Taninthayi Hotel in Dawei, Taninthayi Region, on December 11 and 12.

The meeting reviewed Karen unity and peace efforts being implemented by KUPC. The committee showed its understanding towards KNU for its suspension of official peace talks.

The meeting also decided to call a preliminary meeting to be able to hold the all Karen conference in 2019 and to hold a meeting between KUPC and Karen parliamentary representatives including minister for Karen ethnic affairs and a meeting between KUPC and CBOs/CSOs.

The participants also agreed to hold a meeting of region/state literary culture committees to be able to form a central level committee as a measure to protect the literature, culture and customs of all Karen people.

In its statement KUPC has denounced the activities of non-Karen in the name of Karan national cause as it is believed that they could not serve the interest real Karen people and promote the Karen culture and dignity.

The two-day KUPC meeting also discussed nationwide ceasefire efforts, political talks with Karen people organized by KUPC and difficulties and challenges in protecting Karen literature, culture and traditions.
