Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win has been chosen as the Chairman of the Karen National Union (KNU), sources said.

The 17th Karen National Union (KNU) Congress elected Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win as KNU Chairman.

Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win served as the vice chairman of the KNU and was elected as the chairman of the KNU by secret ballot of the Karen National Union (KNU) Congress.

The 17th Karen National Union (KNU) Congress was held in KNU-controlled territory on April 24.

It was reported that more than 100 representatives from 7 brigades attended and 56 representatives entered the election.

After that, Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win was chosen as the new chairman through a secret voting system.

Former KNU chairman Saw Mutu Sai Poe attended the congress but was not elected as the chairman.

Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, a former student of Yangon University of Economics, came to the central level through the Karen National Union (KNU) Beik/Dawei district, according to the Karen National Media.

The chairmen of the KNU are Saw San Poe Thin, Saw Ba U Kyi, Sakaw Lay Taw, Saw Hunter Tha Hmwe, Mahn Ba Zan, Saw Bo Mya, Saw Ba Thin Sein, Saw Tamla Baw and Saw Mutu Sai Poe, according to a report by Karen National Media.
