Bo Bo Wai Maung, with his rich banking sector experiences, has been appointed to fill the vacancy for Kayin State Minister for Social Affairs, while the State Parliament has also approved the establishment of the ministry of immigration and human resources.

Bo Bo Wai Maung, who became minister after no opposition was shown in parliament, is 38 years old, and has served as managing director of Myanmar Economic Bank, consultant to Yangon City Bank, chief executive officer of YBS and managing director KBZ Bank, said Kyaing State MPs.

"Although he is not a member of the NLD (National League for Democracy), he is a supporter of the party," said an MP.

The former Kayin State Minister for Social Affairs, Dr Tin Win Kyaw for Hlinebwe Constituency No (1), resigned of his own volition in mid-May. A cabinet member said he resigned on health grounds.

There is another vacancy for the minister for Bamar ethnic affairs. The former minister also resigned of his accord.

MP Thant Zin Aung for Myawady Township Constituency No (2) said the vacancy for minister for Bamar ethnic affairs can only be filled after a parliamentary election.

During a parliamentary session held on June 24, Kayin State Parliament approved the establishment of the ministry of immigration and human resources.

The President sent messages to region and state parliaments to form that ministry in the governments of those regions and states.

"At today's meeting, the parliament was just to approve the new ministry establishment. Appointment of the minister will come later," said MP Thant Zin Aung.
