K160 million has been spent on a rural development project in Homalin Township of Sagaing Region.

Soe Min Lat from Homalin Township Rural Development Department said K10 million each was provided to 15 villages in the township in 2018-2019 fiscal year for rural development with the funds from Sagaing Region Rural Development Department.

"The department started VDB project last year. In the previous financial year, we could implement the project only in one village. In the current fiscal year, we could implement it in 16 villages—10 in the first phase, five in the second and one in the third," said Soe Min Lat. "Our department provided K10 million each for those villages."

Villagers can spend the money on what they need such as roads, bridges, schools or clinics.

"Actually, Homalin Township has poor transport. But in the 16 village project, the villagers can spend their money on projects of roads, bridges, electrification and water supply and so on," Soe Min Lat added.

The project in those 16 villages included rural clinic buildings, school buildings, staff quarters and gravel and concrete roads.
