Information Ministry warns against obscene music videos: legal action imminent
Published 14 January 2024

The Ministry of Information has issued a stern warning to producers, organizers, and actors involved in the creation and broadcast of obscene music videos.

According to the announcement made on January 13, any individual associated with the production or dissemination of such content will be subject to legal repercussions in accordance with existing laws.

The Ministry of Information, responsible for overseeing film and video production, emphasizes adherence to the Film Law of 1996 and the Television and Video Law of 1996. However, recent trends have seen certain music video broadcasters flouting Myanmars cultural norms in pursuit of popularity. These videos, deemed unsuitable for family viewing, have proliferated on social networking platforms.

In response, the Ministry asserts that those involved in the creation and dissemination of obscene videos, which run counter to Myanmars cultural values, will face strict consequences. Relevant organizations have been duly informed to implement necessary supervisory and control measures.
