India-Myanmar border gates tighten health screenings

KALAY- Fever screenings have been tightened at the border gates in Tamu Township, Sagaing Region, India-Myanmar border gate.

“The interval gates between Tamu and Moeyay border towns have already closed. No one was allowed entering and existing. But, authorities open the toll gates No.1 and 2 situated in front of Nant Phar Lon Market. If a person will be passing through the above gates, he or she must be received health screenings. Recently, the Social Media reported that a COVID-19 patient had been found in Inphar, a border town of India. So, the Consumer Team from Moeyay Township urged their government to close the border gates. Later, health screenings are being started. If there will be clear health problems, the travelers must be allowed passing through the tollgates. Now, border town tightens the health screenings,” said a person who worked in India-Myanmar border town.

As fences between Moeyay and Tamu Townships in India-Myanmar border weren’t built strongly, the locals from both countries had to enter via interval gates.

Now, the interval gates are tightly closed due to the health situations.

“Officially gates are opened at the border. But, the authorities restricted the travelling. Myanmar health staff made health declaration cards for the travelers at the No.2 toll gate. If there will be health declaration cards, a traveler is allowed. Now, the Indian soldiers guard along the border fences. Both countries carried out the fever screenings at the border gates,” said a seller from Nant Phar Lon Market.

A seller also said that the currency exchange rate wasn’t stable. The water festival was held in India. The dealings suspended due to COVID-19 outbreak. One rupee was about Myanmar currency Ks 17.
