SITTWE- The Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Ponnagyun Township, Rakhine State, are shelterig at Buthidaung Township due to flash battles between the military and the Arakan Army (AA), according to the sources.

There are 31 households comprising 120 family members.

“The IDPs from Ponnagyun Township arrived in Buthidaung Township after arduously passing through the mountain ranges. There are 120 villagers. We need donors to help out with food for them,” said MP Aung Thaung Shwe from Buthidaung Township.

Most of the IDPs are Mro and Arakan ethnics. Some had returned to their village while some fled to safer places due to worry of wounds from stray bullets or shrapnel. But no matter their decision, they do not have enough food stuffs to ration through until the battles are over.

Similarly, there are over 300 IDPs sheltering at  Upper Thinbondan village.

A series clashes between the Tatmadaw and the AA took place not only in Myanmar-Bangladesh border areas but also in Buthidaung and Yathedaung Townships, Rakhine State, according to the information released by the military.
