Heavy shelling kills five, injures three in Kyutkai

Five locals were killed and three others injured by the heavy shelling on Lashio-Muse Union Road in Kyutkai Township in Shan State (North) yesterday. 



Ko Pho Hsan, a local said: “I hear gunfire throughout the morning. No one go outside. The shops are closed. The people are staying in their houses.”

Lwan Ywal from Kyutkai Recuse Network said: “We received the emergency call as the people were injured due to the heavy shelling in Mawheiksuse village. We were unable to rush to the village due to the fights. Five people died and three were injured. Two out of the injured were sent to Lashio Hospital. The rest is receiving treatment at Kyutkai Hospital.”



One male and four females were killed as the heavy shelling fell on two houses. Among the victims were one infant and one grade-4 student. 



On August 30, the Northern Alliance formed with the AA, the MNDAA and the TNLA, set fire to three vehicles and a motorbike  on the Union Road near Maili and Panphat villages between Lashio and Heinni in Shan State (North).



On August 29, the Northern Alliance blocked the road, setting fire to a vehicle between Namphatkar and Muse. 



On August 24, the Northern Alliance carried out the attacks on Theinni Yaypu inspection camp on Lashio-Muse Union Road, killing a member of the Painsar People’s Militia and injuring one. 



The fights have started taking place between Tatmadaw and the Northern Alliance since the Northern Alliance carried out attacks on the DSTA, Goketwin bridge, the police outpost and toll gates on August 14.
