Heavy downpour floods some areas in Yangon

Due to heavy rainfall on June 7, several places across Yangon saw flooding.

Places in Mingalardon, Hlaing, Insein, Tamwe, South Oakkalapa townships and so on were flooded as drains overflowed.

"I was on the way back from work and it usually takes around 1 hour at most but since the downpour flooded roads, traffic jams formed and I got home late," said a woman that lives in Hlaing Township.

Traffic jams occurred throughout the city all along the day as it rained continuously.

"The rain made so much traffic jams. I came back from Aung Mingalar Highway Gate and it took me 2 hours to get to Tharkayta," said a driver.

There were many vehicles that were seen trying to avoid flood areas as it was too deep and may stall the vehicle if they dorve through.

The Meterology Department had forecasted that monsoon wind will be strong starting June 8 in Yangon, Rakhine, Ayeyawaddy, Bago, Kayin and Tanintharyi States and Regions as well as subsequet impacts such as floods and landslides. It had also forecasted far strong wind and rainfall after June 10.
