H1N1 kills 94 people in Myanmar

A total of 94 out of 520 H1N1 patients have died till August 13 in Myanmar and two more people from Yangon Region died, according to Ministry of Health and Sports.

Out of 358 influenza-like illness (ILI) patients, 84 of them are H1N1 patients and 15 are influenza A (H3N2) patients. Among them, nine people are suffered from influenza B. Out of 896 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients, 367 of them are H1N1 patients and 24 are influenza A (H3N2) patients. Among them, 22 people are suffered from influenza B.

“The health authorities tested 1,252 patients and found 520 of them are infected with H1N1. The death tolls reached to 94: 65 from Yangon Region, 11 from Ayeyawady Region, 7 from Bago Region, three each from Mon State and Sagaing Region, two from Magway Region, one each from Rakhine, Kachin and southern Shan State,” said an official from Central Epidemiology Unit under the Department of Public Health.

The numbers of infected patients and deaths in regions and states are as per following: 247 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 562 suspects and 65 deaths from Yangon Region, 48 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 99 suspects and 11 deaths from Ayeyawady Region, 11 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 22 suspects and 3 deaths from Sagaing Region, 10 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 18 suspects and 3 deaths from Mon State, 29 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 75 suspects and 7 deaths from Bago Region, 55 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 134 suspects from Nay Pyi Taw, 22 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 39 suspects and 2 deaths from Magway Region, 6 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 22 suspects from Mandalay Region, 28 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 69 suspects and 1 death from Rakhine State, 4 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 11 suspects from Shan State (north), 6 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 9 suspects and 1 death from Shan State (south), no confirmed H1N1 patient out of 1 suspect from Shan State (east), 4 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 8 suspects from Taninthayi Region, 31 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 93 suspects and 1 death from Kachin State, three suspects from Chin State and 11 confirmed H1N1 patients out of 79 suspects from Kayin State, announced the ministry.

In Yangon Region, 65 H1N1 death cases are from South Dagon, Hlaingthayar, Thingangyun, Thanlyin, North Oakkalapa, Hmawby, Thaketa, Mingaladon, North Dagon, East Dagon, Mingalar Taungnyunt, Shwepyithar, Yankin, Thonekwa, Sanchaung, Htantapin, Kawthmu, Dagon Seikkan, Hlegu, Mayangone, Kyimyindine, Hlaing, Twantay, Tamwe, Dawbon, Khunchankone, Botahtaung, Ahlon and Seikkyi Kanaungtoe townships respectively.
