H1N1 death toll hits 105

The number of H1N1 death toll reached 105 nationwide with Yangon topping the list with 68 till 26 August, according to the figures from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

Two deaths in Yangon Region and one in Bago Region are added to the latest numbers.

From January to August 26, out of 395 patients with Influenza Like Illness (ILI), 95 patients were found to have A (H1N1), 16, A (H3N2) and 14, Influenza B. Out of 1,072 Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients, 403 patients were found to have A (H1N1), 32 patients, A (H3N2) and 34 patients, Influenza B.

An official of the Central Infectious Diseases Control Division under the Public Health Department said: “Till 26 August, 1,420 patients conducted the laboratory tests. There were 593 laboratory-confirmed patients. There were 105 reported deaths—68 in Yangon, 13 in Ayeyawady, 10 in Bago, three each in Magway, Mon and Sagaing, two in Rakhine and one each in Kachin, Shan (south) and Taninthayi.”
