Gov’t, (UWSP/UWSA) to meet later this month

The government will meet with the (United Wa State Party) UWSP/ United Wa State Army (UWSA) later this month, said Zaw Htay, Director-General of the State Counsellor Office after the military parade of the 30th anniversary of “Wa” State Peace Building on April 17.

Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population Thein Swe, the Director-General of the State Counsellor Office and governmental officials attended the ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of “Wa” State Peace Building.

“Like the message sent by the State Counsellor, we have long maintained ceasefire for 30 years. Thanks to it, it sees peace and development. It is true that peace can bring about growth. Growth and peace are interdependent. We need to go to the next step to achieve the sustainable peace. especially, the constitution, states and law. In the State Counsellor’s message, we need to hold political talks to ensure certain divisions. We hold discussions today and yesterday. It is a fruitful tour as there are informal meetings between the deputy head of the WA and the Union Ministers and U Thein Zaw. We have offered to further hold talks with “Wa” Special Region-2. We will discuss a plan to move to the next step after Thingyan,” Zaw Htay added.

State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was unable to attend the 30th anniversary of “Wa” State Peace Building due to various circumstances, Zaw Htay said.
