Mandalay Region government is planning to upgrade Tada-U Airport as it has the longest runway in South East Asia and it will be a good place in the region, said its Chief Minister Dr Zaw Myint Maung at Invest Myanmar Summit 2019 held at Nay Pyi Taw on January 28.

“The airport is 35 kilometers away from Mandalay and it has the longest runway in South East Asia. We are developing the airport with Japanese help and it has good potentials. The airport can provide services to three million passengers annually. If we upgrade it, it will be a good place as an international airport in South East Asia. So we are trying to invite airlines to land at the airport,” said the chief minister.

“It will be an important fact for investment as the connectivity is made by road, water way and air,” he said.

Mandalay is located in the middle area of Myanmar and it can access all areas of Myanmar easily. It is located in the middle of China and India, which are superpower countries. All goods coming from China and India have to pass Mandalay. So it will be a strategic place to make investment in the future, said the chief minister.

“We included Mandalay in ten smart cities of South East Asia. Singapore planned Mandalay as a potential place to make investment. That’s why investors have taken interested to make investment in Mandalay,” said the chief minister.

No.1 and 2 ASEAN highway roads also passed Mandalay region.
