Gov’t funds Ks 773 m for elephantiasis vaccination program

The government has provided a fund of Ks 773 million for the nationwide elephantiasis vaccination program, said Dr. Aye Mon Mon Kyaw, assistant director of Yangon Region Public Health Department.

Eisai pharmaceutical company donated DEC tablets worth Ks 543.8 million, GSK pharmaceutical company, Albendazole tablets worth Ks 739.5 million and the government, Ks 733 million for the distribution of medicines, the printing and distribution of guide books and step-by-step supervision.

The vaccination program will take place from 22 to 31 January.

Since 2010, the ministry launched the vaccination program in Thayat and Minbu Districts in Magway Region. In 2012, the program covered 22 districts including Sagaing, Mandalay and Rakhine.

In 2013, the ministry extended the program to Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Bago, Ayeyawady, Taninthayi, Kayin and Mon.

Until now, the cases are reported in 45 districts in Myanmar. Four districts in Yangon are included in the list.
