Government members and cabinet ministers achieved positions not because of their brilliant performance, but because of the support of the people to NLD. They become conceited as they forget their original status before achieving positions, said Dr Zaw Myint Maung, Vice-Chairman-2 of the ruling National League for Democracy.

The remarks came from the opening speech of the vice-chairman-2 to the NLD’s different-level meeting in Kandaw Mingala Hall in Pyinmana, Nay Pyi Taw on July 21.

“Government members and ministers become conceited and they forget their original status before achieving positions. They think that they achieved positions because of their personalities but not because of the support of the people. They fail to carry out development tasks for the people and therefore frictions appear among them. Moreover, the parliament and the government are facing frictions. Actually these frictions should not come into view because our democratic culture is to seek a solution by a process of negotiation, but our MPs and ministers go against such a notion,” said Dr Zaw Myint Maung.

We are experiencing frictions of different kinds while we are trying our best. The MPs of the party are facing frictions and that some are resigning from the party for different reasons without listening to the expressions of the party. Some are doing what they like unwisely and they become conceited and that cause frictions of different kinds, Dr Zaw Myint Maung added.

“We are assigned duties. Who assigned duties? The party assigned duties. And so the party is in the upper structure and the parliament and the government are below the party. But the parliament and the government must have reciprocal control to each other. The Constitution mentioned that no one is above the law. But we have the duties to maintain reciprocal control. Three major branches are described in the Constitution and that all major branches must have reciprocal control among them. We all must know we are assigned duties by the party. If we know it, we don’t need to become conceited,” said Dr Zaw Myint Maung.

The party comes to know the difficulties facing the ministers when we hold too many meetings between the party, the government and the parliament. We are working in the alien situation regardless of our security. The MPs may have some kind of difficulties but we should frequently meet to strengthen our solidarity, said Dr Zaw Myint Maung.

The strengthened solidarity we mentioned is very vital for our future destination and that the meetings of the parliament and the party appear in regions and states from time to time. Not only the party members but also the parliamentarians express their difficulties in the meetings. What we mean is that our executive members should listen to these voices and be well-prepared for the upcoming 2020 general elections and review our needs. It is of great importance to develop democratic roots. We want to keep on grasping management and we have many development tasks to do, said Dr Zaw Myint Maung.

The NLD has achieved many successes during its tenure of three and half years. The World Bank report stated that Myanmar is on the right track and that is developing. The government, the parliament and the party worked together so as to grasp such good prospects, said Dr Zaw Myint Maung.
