Fuel shortages cause long lines at Yangon stations

In Yangon, some fuel stations are currently experiencing shortages of certain types of fuel, leading to long waiting  times for motorists.

Starting the afternoon of July 29, vehicle owners and taxi drivers have reported difficulties in purchasing specific types of fuel at various stations. According to a taxi driver, "The issue began yesterday afternoon. Most stations are out of 92 RON, and some are also missing 95 RON. Generally, stations are struggling to provide 92 RON."

By July 30, many residents noted that vehicles were lining up at fuel stations to fill up. One Yangon driver commented, "I had to wait for half an hour, which is better than before when I waited for hours. While 92 RON is still unavailable at many stations, some do have 95 RON."

At fuel stations, only the prices of available fuels are displayed on LED boards, leaving customers uncertain about the availability of other types. A driver advised, "If the price isn’t listed on the LED board, don’t bother asking. You’re unlikely to find that fuel and will just waste your time."

Additionally, the high volume of vehicles seeking fuel has exacerbated the shortage. "If you find 92 RON at a station, it’s best to buy it quickly. The fuel might run out soon, and there are many cars waiting," warned another driver.

As of July 30, the prices at fuel stations are as follows: 92 RON at Ks.2,630 per liter, 95 RON at Ks.2,750 per liter, premium diesel at Ks.2,770 per liter, and regular diesel at Ks.2,365 per liter.
