Females to get free cervical cancer vaccine in 2020

As of 2020, the Ministry of Health and Sports will give free cervical cancer vaccine to the females aged between nine and 14 years.

Dr. Htar Htar Lin from the Extended Vaccination Program said: “Normally, the vaccine is given to the girls aged  between nine and 13 years in the globe. In Myanmar, there have been preparations and discussions over a plan to put it in the regular immunization program over the years. We have fixed the age range suited to our country for the vaccine program. We have prepared to inject  vaccines against diarrhea and cervical cancer by 2020. The GAVI has funded more than 32 million USD for the vaccination program.”

According to the researches jointly conducted by Medical Research Department, the Central Women Hospital and Yangon East Hospital in 2016, the outbreaks of cervical cancer among women aged between 50 and 59 is the highest.

The Central Women Hospital and Yangon East Hospital conducted a survey of 106 cervical cancer patients aged between 20 and 79 years. It is found that 97 patients (91.5 per cent) have no cancer history.

The women aged between 50 and 59 years is 34.9 per cent, those aged between 40 and 49 years, 26.4 per cent, those aged between 60 and 69 years, 20.8 per cent, those aged between 30 and 39, 8.5 per cent, those aged between 70 and 79 years, 7.5 per cent and those aged between 20 and 29 years, 1.9 per cent.

In 2014, specialists conducted surveys at the hospitals across the country. More than 500,000 Myanmar women suffer cervical cancer every year, half of them die.
