Karen National Union vice chairman Pado Saw Kwe Htoo Win said Myanmar should build a federal union and peace through peaceful means, not human lives.

"My point is that we no longer want to see loss of blood, sweat and lives in marching towards the goal of federal democracy and peace. We will build it through peaceful means," said Saw Kwe Htoo Win.

With the lack of a constitution for the establishment of a federal union aspired by the ethnics in Myanmar, internal armed conflict has surfaced causing instability. It had to take over 60 years to reach a current stage of peace, he commented.

"We could sign the NCA (nationwide ceasefire agreement) only after 60 years. We don't want to lose blood, lives and tears of our people to establish a democratic federal union and achieve peace. I agreed to go to our goal through the results from the peace dialogue. See how long it was and how many lives were lost to have a single word "federal", said Pado Saw Kwe Htoo Win.

He also pointed out the need to hold official or unofficial peace talks to implement the agreed points.

"Rather than achieving peace through our lives, blood and sweat, we need to do so through peace talks. I believe that way despite hardship.

The KNU vice chair made the remark during the introduction of a peace research paper and political talks organized by the Center for Development and Ethnic Studies.
