The ministry will invite private companies to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) for the border economic zone project in Muse of Myanmar-China border, said Aung Htoo, Deputy Minister for Commerce.

“We have chosen Kanpiketi in Kachin State, Muse in Shan State and Chinshwehaw in Koekant for the border economic zone. Now we have started implementing the project between Muse and Shweli. China has done fancing in Kyakkhaung. In Myanmar, the zone is located in the place where New Starlight Company is present in Muse.”

In coming December, the border trade show will be in Muse. Officials from Myanmar and China will discuss more details about the project during the trade show period.

“The discussion includes two parts. The first one is the government-to-government discussion. The second one is business-to-business discussion. The meetings will mainly focus on the implementation of industrial zones. The government-recognized private companies will be allowed to implement the projects.”

During Myanmar State Counsellor’s tour to China in August, 2016, an agreement was reached on the development of Myanmar-China border economic cooperation zone. According to it, both sides signed a MoU to implement Myanmar-China border economic cooperation zone in May, 2017. The establishment of border economic zone will increase local and foreign investments, create regional economic opportunities and job opportunities, develop Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), boost productivity and promote bilateral trade, said Union Minister for Commerce Dr. Than Myint.
