Renowned film director Wyne facing arrest warrant after being charged under Section 505 (a) of the penal code of Myanmar has been arrested at home, a source close to his family has confirmed.

Wyne was arrested at his apartment No.3, Ward 7, Pazundaung Township, Yangon, at about 11.50 am today.

“He was apprehended when he came back home. It was in the morning,” said the source.

Pazundaung Police Station filed a suit against Director Wyne (aka) Tun Zaw Win on defamation charges under section 505 (a) in March 2021. He is now said to be at Botahtaung Township Police Station.

Wyne had recently suffered from stroke, and he was still unfit at the time of his arrest, the source said.

He won the Academy Award in the best manuscript of the film “Shwe Kyar” in 2018.
