Dept seizes over 160,000 tons of illegal timbers in 45 months

Till November since 2016, the Forest Department at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation seized over 160,000 tons of illegal timbers, 11,045 vehicles and machinery and more than 23,000 citizens and 59 foreigners involved in the cases.

Till August of  2018-19 FY, the department seized 44672.9390 tons of teak, hard woods and other illegal timbers, 28 foreigners, 4,284 citizens, 2,815 vehicles and machinery and 315 chainsaws.

In 2019-20 FY, the department seized 4434.2947 tons of timber, 563 persons and 357 vehicles and machinery. Kayah Sate and Sagaing Region topped the list of timber seizure cases.

The department seized 11,257.9992 tons in Kayah State, 9,165.6526 tons in Sagaing Region, 2,896.9693 tons in Kachin State, 4,943.4128 tones in Bago Region, 1,619.5993 tons in Magway Region, 1,812.4717 tons in Mandalay Region, 1,679.5224 tones in Rakhine State, 2,072.9113 tons in Shan State (South), 2,111.3263 tons in Shan State (North), 3,194.4556 tons in Ayeyawady Region, 190.9674 tons in Kayin State, 238.5782 tons in Chin State, 995.7624 tons in Taninthayi Region, 526.3127 tons in Nay Pyi Taw, 999.5786 tons in Mon State, 732.3705 tons in Yangon Region and 236.0487 tons in Shan State (East).
