Three low pressure areas may form over the Bay of Bengal during August and two may further intensify into a depression, according to monthly weather forecast for August made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“We have more rain in August and floods are mostly occurred in rivers and streams in lower areas of Myanmar. We need to be careful of flood due to strong monsoon season and clouds remained from a storm formed in South China Sea. Water levels in Dotehtawady and Chindwin rivers may increase,” said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the DMH.

Three low pressure areas may form over the Bay of Bengal and two may further intensify into a depression.  During this monsoon period, monsoon will be moderate to strong, the forecast said.

Rain will be expected above normal in Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states and  about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions,  Kachin, Shan, Chin and Kayah states.

Rainy days will be expected 18 to 27 days in Nay Pyi Taw, upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, southern and eastern Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin and  Mon states and 10 to 17 days in lower Sagaing, and Magway regions, northern Shan, and Kayah states.
