The government’s decision to defend the lawsuit filed by Gambia at the International Court of Justice(ICJ) shows the government’s accountability and responsibility and uncovers the truth and justice, according to a statement issued by the NCA-S EAO (Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement – Signatory, Ethnic Armed Organizations) meeting on December 4.

The Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) composed of ten NCA signatories held its meeting at Chiang Mai, Thailand from December 2 to 4.

Myanmar can promote its image in the international stage by abiding by the international contracts and pledges and swiftly implementing the tasks for national reconciliation and sustainable local peace, the statement says.

At the meeting, the guidelines of NCA signatories were amended and approved.

There are differences between the provisions included in the NCA about the restrictions and bans placed on free travel and freedom of speech by NCA-SEAO leaders and representatives. As there may be impacts on trust building between the two sides, the meeting opposed it.

The meeting also called on the officials to seek the solution to the problem through discussions for the immediate end to the ongoing fighting and internal conflicts in Rakhine, Mon and Shan States.
