Couple faces legal action for burning bank note

Legal action will be taken against two persons for incinerating a bank note issued by the State, according to a statement released by Myanmar Police Force on November 30.  

At about 1 pm on November 27, a man and a woman broadcast live on the Facebook page named Biggest Shopping & Retail burning a 5,000-kyat note issued by the Central Bank of Myanmar. 

Paragraph-99 (a) Chapter (16) of the Central Bank of Myanmar Law bans cutting, tearing or distorting bank notes without permission. 

In the case, these two persons were found to have breached the law. 

MPF launched an investigation and the two persons were found living in Laydaukkan Ward, Thingangyun Township, Yangon Region. They are a married couple. MPF announced that legal action will be taken against them under Section 103/107 of the Central Bank of Myanmar Law.
