As clashes broke out near Alei Chaung village in Buthidaung township on morning of January 13, all villagers fled their village and they are being sheltered at Thayatpyin monastery.

More than 260 people from Alei Chaung village in Buthidaung township fled their homes on January 13.

"At 8:00 o'clock, there was an exchange of fire near our village. Bullets entered our village and with terror, we fled to safety. We are now staying at Thayatpyin monastery. Previously, we heard sounds of heavy weapon and artillery from our village.  But they were far from our village. Thayatpyin monastery in Thayatpyin village is more than a mile away from our village. As IDP, we have many necessities," said Kyaw Kyaw Naing from Alei Chaung village.

The internally displaced people are in need of bed sheets and tarpaulin to cover the ground.

Due to the clashes between Arakan Army (AA) and the military, there are now more than 5000 IDPs. The clashes broke out in Kyauktaw, Yathedaung, Buthidaung and Ponnakyun Townships.
