Civil Disobedience Movement gains steam across Myanmar

The Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) of government workers is being carried out in Naypyidaw,  Yangon, Mandalay and most other towns.    

The CDM, in defiance of seizure of power, was initiated by healthcare workers, and other government departments followed suit in unison on 8th of February.     

In the movement in Naypyidaw most of the government workers participated,  and according to enquiries made the number of staff in government offices was smaller than before.     

In Yangon Region too, those that participated in the movement were engineers from government departments, health and education staff who joined those walking in protest.    

Staff from private banks too participated in walking protests so that branch banks were closed.     

In Yangon on 8th Feb., being the third day of protests, some staff from private banks as well joined in the walking protest chanting their slogans.     

In addition some staff from the energy department participated in the movement so that some CNG sales stations were closed.    

It was noticed that in other regions and states government workers took part in CDM.   

The CDM, stated on their social web page that the movement was started by those from the medical world to denounce the seizure of power by the military spread throughout the nation as the public were aware of, and that from the staff of the medical world other government workers joined in so that the movement was heading to general protest. In the web page it states that they understand that during the covid pandemic the general public were having recourse to public hospitals, but that the country should be under military rule if public health would be worse off.    

In the statement it was mentioned that they had to take part in that movement for long term effect. Here and now the public were requested to be patient,  and that health services will be provided in public hospitals, and that websites would be provided for the public for their health requirements during the period of the protests.
