Chinese Special Envoy meets armed ethnic groups

Mr. Sun Guoxiang, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry, met with some armed ethnic groups on Myanmar-China border on January 10, according to the Kachin Net.

According to the Kachin Net, Mr. Sun Guoxiang and party arrived at the KIO/KIA headquarters in Laiza, on January 10. During his tour, Mr. Sun Guoxiang held talks with the top leaders of KIO/KIA including KIO/KIA Chair General Nban La.

The Kachin Net described the photos of AA Chief Tun Myat Naing shaking hands with the Chinese Special Envoy. The AA’s deputy chief Dr. Nyo Tun Aung is also included in the photo.

Currently, the ongoing fights between the Tatmadaw and the AA are taking place in Rakhine State and Paletwa Township in Chin State.

The Chinese Special Envoy also met with the leaders of the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA) at Mongla Special Region-4 in Mongla on January 7.

According to the Mongla News, the Chinese Special Envoy and party paid a new year visit to Mongla. The Special Envoy said Special Region-4 of Mongla assisted in all matters to which the Chinese government paid special attention, last year. This is the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relation between Myanmar and China. Myanmar plays an important role in China’s One Belt and One Road project. In the new year, he expects mutual relations and cooperation between the two countries can be further promoted.

U Nyi Yang, head of the Wa Liaison Office in Lashio said the Chinese Special Envoy met with the officials of the “Wa” Group in the recent days.

The meetings came before the Chinese President’s visit to Myanmar. Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a visit to Myanmar from January 17 to 18.

The Deputy Minister for Commerce said during his tour, the Chinese President will sign the MoU on border economic cooperation and Kyaukphyu economic zone in Rakhine State.
