Chinese citizens holding fake IDs arrested in Nay Pyi Taw

NAYPYITAW- Three Chinese citizens were arrested in Nay Pyi Taw for possessing fake identity cards at this year’s Gems Emporium, according to sources.

Officials from Immigration Departments in Dhakhinathiri and Zabuthiri Townships checked those those attending Mid-Year Gems Emporium being held at Mani Yadana Jade Hall in Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw.

They were caught at the checkpoint of the emporium on September 16th.

“The immigration department checked the merchants and they told that the arrested Chinese citizens held the fake identity cards. So, they filed a lawsuit against them at the police station. They[Chinese] didn’t come to the emporium,” said Min Thu, Chairman of Jade Enterprise Work Committee who is also General Manager of Myanma Gems Enterprise.

Township Officer from Immigration Department in Zabuthiri Township filed a lawsuit against the three Chinese citizens for possessing fake identity cards in accordance with the law at the police station in Zabuthiri Township on September 17th.

They are now being detained at the police station for questioning.

The emporium will be held until the 25th of September and it is the 95th of its kind since Myanmar started holding gems emporiums in 1964.

A total of 6,865 merchants from 26 countries were invited to attend the emporium where raw jade lots and finished jade products are being displayed and sold.
