China is paying a good price for buying Puta O region stone bugs, one of the well known products coming out of far north region of Myanmar.

"Stone bugs are a kind of insect. They have a pungent smell and lives under rocks and stones. Locals of Puta O region have been eating these bugs  for a long time. Those who have the habit of eating are familiar with their pungent smell and claim it to be sweet. It is quite recently that China started buying  these bugs.  They said these bugs have medicinal benefits but I don't know what exactly. They can only be eaten alive. If there were eaten after dead, you may feel quite sick. The dead ones are poisonous. If you want to eat a live bug, first, you have to first remove their wings,  and squeeze their stomach to remove their urine. The urine can burn your mouth. Then, you can fry or cook these bugs," said Puta O local Moe Min Thein.

Stone bugs are found in Kachin State and Myitkyina. Stone bugs buying from China is  from cooler part of the region and small in size. They can be abundantly found in Namtlan river along Ponekanrazi  mountain. These can be found in  November, December, January, February and March.  

A tin of stone bugs catch Ks 2500 to Ks 3000. A Wholesale market is opened in Puta O and resold in China.
