YANGON-With the aim to use in containing and treating COVID-19 in Myanmar, the Chinese government donated ventilators to Myanmar, according to the Chinese embassy in Myanmar.
First phase of 20 ventilators arrived at Yangon International Airport on April 22nd . The Chinese Ambassador handed over the 20 ventilators to Dr Zaw Than Tun, Director-General of the Medical Research Department under the Ministry of Health and Sports and Military Rep. Brig-Gen Myint Zaw (No.1 Military Hospital).
Chinese Ambassador Chen Hai said that the Chinese government and its social organizations donated medical supplies to Myanmar aiming to fight against the COVID-19. Those ventilators were very important for use in containment and treatment of COVID-19.
He also said that it was the first donation. Another donation including medical equipment will come in the near future, citing this as the sort of cooperation strengthening bilateral relationship between Myanmar and China.
The value of 20 ventilators is US$ 400,000.
A 12-member Chinese medical expert team which will help Myanmar in the fight against the COVID-19, arrived in Yangon on the morning of April 8.
The Chinese medical team is formed with the medical experts from Yunnan Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, Kunming Medical University No.2 Hospital and Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital in Yunnan Province.
While staying in Myanmar, the team visited 43 places including medical treatment teams, laboratories and quarantine centers in Yangon and Mandalay Regions.
The team also held the talks with health departments from relevant states and regions during the video conference as well as they trained over 400 people.
The Chinese medics returned back home on April 22nd after completion of their assignment in Myanmar.
Likewise, Dr Myint Htwe, Union Minister of Health and Sports made a video call to thank the Chinese medics before departure.
