Chin gov’t to send rice bags to Paletwa

KALAY----Rice bags will be sent to Paletwa Township, Chin State, for locals and displaced persons. 

A total of 1,700 rice bags arrived in Paletwa Township on October 13th, said Municipal Affairs Minister Soe Htet from Chin State Government Committee.

“Rice bags have already arrived in Paletwa. But, locals will need more. There are only enough rice bags for five days. We are going to send 10,000 more rice bags to the Paletwa region. We sent the rice bags to Paletwa via Kalay and Pakokku Townships. But there are security restrictions so the transportation access is difficult. So, the convoy loaded with rice bags was delayed. If the bus route will open, we will continuously send the rice to Paletwa,” said Soe Htet.

There are over 60,000 people in 246 villages in 76 village-tracts, Paletwa Township, Chin State. Now, Paletwa locals are facing the food shortage, according to the reports of village heads and religious leaders.

A local from Paletwa said that a total of 1,700 rice bags arrived in Paletwa on October 13th. The regional authorities would manage the rice distribution program. The regional minister said that the rice bags were for locals and displaced persons. Villages in Paletwa Township faced rice shortage. The amount of 1,700 rice bags wasn't enough for the locals. For displaced persons, 1,500 bags were needed per month.  While help had arrived in Paletwa, the township still needed more.

A total of 1,700 rice bags were donated by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement other civic organizations. It was sent to Paletwa Township by 29 trucks with a military escort.
