Case filed against two marijuana activists

A case has been filed against two persons who led the demonstration for the official use of marijuana, under Section 19 of Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Law, at Kyauktada Township Police Station  on November 11.

On the evening of November 11, around 100 people wearing face masks participated in the demonstration at Mahabandoola Park in Yangon, calling for the legalization of marijuana. The demonstration was organized by the NJ.

 “Heavy sentences are handed down to youths due to marijuana use. Marijuana can save the lives. We will continue to make demonstration until we achieve our goal,” said Ko Htet Shin Aung from Belin of Mon State, who participated in the demonstration.

The similar activities were held in Mandalay, Taunggyi and Myingyan simultaneously. They released 111 hot-air balloons bearing Cannabis Saves Lives”.

“The police have filed a case against Sein Hla Maung and Htet Khaing Soe,” said a police officer from Kyauktada Township.

Recently, Thailand legalized the use of marijuana for medicinal and research purposes.
