Border cities launch coronavirus screening

Screenings for coronavirus have been launched at the border cities in Chin Shwe Haw, Laukai District, Kokant Self Administered Zone, northern Shan State, Tanithari Region and three border gates in Kachin State.

Travelers arriving through Myanmar-China border gate, Myanmar-Thai border gate and Kanpaikte border area in Kachin State must be received the fever screening and then they were allowed coming to Myanmar.

In Taninthari Region, the fever screening for coronavirus is being carried out at Kawtaung-Ranoi and Mawtaung-Hsinkhun border gates since January 27th.

As of now, Thailand have reported confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.

“The health department is now carrying out fever screenings at the Mawtaung border gate in Taninthari Region. We heard that suspects had been found in Thailand. We have started screening the people entering Myanmar from Thailand until the closing time of the border gates. The staff from the border gates also participated in the health screening,” said MP Aung Kyaw Hein from Taninthari Region.

Likewise, health screenings are being made in Chinshwehaw, Kokang Self-administered zone, northern Shan State.

“We carried out fever screening those travelers coming from China and those with high fever at Chinshwehaw Station Hospital. At present, we don’t find the suspect patient. Likewise, a team led by health staffs from Chinshwehaw station hospital is carrying the screening in Laukkai,” said Dr Thiha, In-charge of Chinshwehaw Station Hospital.

He also said that the number of travelers regularly enter Myanmar through the border gate because it was the Chinese New Year Period.

Myanmar migrant workers had to go to China through Chinashwehaw border gate with the aim to earn their living as sugarcane workers.

Moreover, the Kachin State government is working to carry out thermal screening at three border gates in Kachin-China border in order to contain Wuhan virus.

“Officials conducted the field work for thermal screening at Kanpiketi, Lwalgal and Panwar border gates on January 27th, said Kachin State Minister for Social Affairs Nay Win.

Three official border gates are located in Kachin State.

Around 5,000 Chinese citizens are working in Kachin State, said Kachin State Minister for Immigration and Human Resources Zaw Win.

Almost all Chinese citizens working in culture-tissue banana plantations in Kachin State went home to mark the Chinese New Year Festival. They will return to Myanmar at the end of January. They are working in culture-tissue banana plantations in Kachin State.

The Chinese New Year Holiday was from January 24th to 26th. The holiday period have since been extended in China to better deal with the viral outbreak.

Kanpiketi border camp sees low inflow and outflow of people.

Normally, the camp sees hundreds of trucks loaded with Chinese tissue-cultured banana. Since the end of January, the camp may see the hustle and bustle of trucks, said a staff from the border camp.

Currently, the coronavirus spread to 15 countries and totaling 132 people until January 29th died due to Wuhan virus.
