Kadarlar Bridge between Demawso and Hpruso Townships in Kayah State was destroyed by a mine blast, according to the locals.

The locals also said that no one knew when the armed group destroyed the bridge.

“We heard that the bridge was attacked by mines. But no one knew who carried out the attack. We knew that the photos of a bridge which was destroyed in a bomb attack were spread on Facebook. When we heard the news, and we wanted to cry. In Hpruso Township, electricity was cut off for about one week. No one leaves and comes to town. Now, the Hpruso Township had ran out of basic commodities. Only elderly persons and some women remained in the town. Medicines are now urgently in need. We don’t know what to do,” said a woman from Hpruso.

In Kayah State, Kadarlar Bridge plays a vital role in the commodities flow.

“We use the Kadarlar Bridge. The bridge connects Loikaw with other five townships except Shardaw Township. In Kayah State, there are seven Townships. When we heard that the bridge was broken, we were very disappointed. Now, the rice bags are not bought in Mawchi Township. The price of rice bags rose in Mawchi as Ks 70,000 per bag. In Kayah State, no paddy is planted in Mawchi Township. We never encourage those people to destroy the bridge. We were very sad,” said a local from Loikaw Township.

Likewise, social media reported that the people didn’t encourage destruction of bridges and they were worried about people trapped in townships.
