Old ballot papers used in the 2015 General Election were placed in the envelopes prepared for the 2020 General Election for the Myaung Mya ward No-2, polling station no-1 and the matter was submitted to Township Election Commission.
The case was when a woman handed over an envelope which contained ballot papers used in the 2015 General Election. So, the rest envelopes were checked and found old ballot papers. Among them 8 envelopes contained Pyithu Hluttaw, 3 envelopes contained Amyothat Hluttaw and an envelope for regional constituencies. It was found that these old ballot papers were unused.
When the polling booth opened, a woman came to cast an advance vote. She didn’t notice the first two ballot papers. She only noticed on the last ballot paper and told us. We checked all ballot papers and found another 12 ballot papers. There were 8 envelopes containing Pyithu Hluttaw, 3 envelopes containing Amyothat Hluttaw and an envelope for regional constituencies. We recorded the incident. They were not found in an envelope but in every envelope. When we were checking, Ye Ye Min, a member of the Township Election Commission, came to cast vote. We showed these old ballot papers to her,” said May Myat Mon from the Union Solidarity and Development Party member who is monitoring the polling station.
Another person who is also at the polling station also confirmed the case.
When contact was made to the township election commission for the matter, no one answered the phone.
