Bago Region has over 3.7 m eligible voters

There are over 3,700,000 eligible voters for the 2020 General Election, in Bago Region, with more than 400,000 new eligible voters aged between 18 and 22, said Aung Myint, Chair of the Bago Region Election Sub-Commission, at a meeting with the youth voters in Bago on 11 January. 

“We cast our ballots in 2010 and 2015 General Elections. The next in the line is the 2020 General Election. This event is held in order to let young voters know to what extent a ballot is important and understand the ways of how to cast their votes. Bago Region has 3,775,212 eligible voters. Out of them, 448,073 voters aged between 18 and 22 will cast their votes for the first time, he added. 

There are 448,073 voters young eligible voters in four districts in Bago Region—180,301 in Bago District, 106,200 in Taungoo District, 65,045 in Pyay District and 94,482 in Thayawady District.

A youth representative from Ottwin Township said: “I attend this event as a representative for the disabled. I have a plan to share the ways of how the disabled can cast their ballots. We should cast our ballots without fail in order that we can choose the government we want.”

The election sub-commission plans to move the polling stations out of the battalions and units.

There are around 220 military polling stations in Bago District. The election sub-commission is unable to release the exact number of military polling stations though it has compiled the lists in Bago Region.
