Ayeyawady Region Development Affairs Minister infected with COVID-19

Kyaw Myint, Development Affairs Minister for Ayeyawady Region, is being infected with COVID-19 virus, according to lab results from National Health Laboratory (NHL) released on December 9.

Members of National League for Democracy winning sub-committee for election in Labutta Township were found infected with COVID-19 virus while they were preparing for expenses used in election period by elected representatives to submit to election sub-commission and the authorities took a swab to people who have close contact with them. The development affairs minister was found infected with the virus.

Although he was tested negative while he was tested using an antigen rapid test kit, his result released by the NHL showed he was infected.

“He hasn't come to office since he quarantined. He is working from there. He is in good health and I can say that much,” said a cabinet member for the region.

A total of 17 people including Chan Nyein Kyaw, candidate of No.10 Constituency for Amyotha Hluttaw, Aung Kyaw Soe, candidate of No.1 Constituency for Labutta Township and Kyaw Win, candidate of No.2 Constituency for Labutta Township, were infected while they were preparing for expenses used in election period by elected representatives. They were infected from a computer staff in the office.

The members of the National League for Democracy winning sub-committee in addition to some executive members of the township are kept in quarantine. On December 7, 12 out of 66 people from Labutta Township are found infected with the virus, source said.
