Authorities seize narcotic drugs, guns and ammunition in Mawlamyaing

Authorities found narcotic drugs, handmade guns, air guns and ammunition from a compound owned by Major Naing Aung Aung aka Naing Aung from Mon Peace Defence Front (MPDF) in Mawlamyaing on June 24, sources said.

Security forces led by Col. Maung Maung Latt from South-East Command entered and searched in the compound, which is also opened as a liaison office, according to a tip-off about the narcotic drugs. They found about two kyattha of marijuana, 358 amphetamine tablets and apparatuses used for narcotic drugs, according to Mupon police station.

The authorities also found a .22 caliber firearm, one short gun, four air guns, a gun that use plastic balls to fire, three binoculars, one three-step iron bar, one folding knife, ten 7.62 bullets, six 9mm bullets, nine .22 bullets, thirteen .45 bullets, an Anofeng brand walkie-talkie, one MPDF uniform and a car, according to the police.

“The narcotic drugs and weapons seized by the army are being transferred to Sub-Inspector Thet Tin Naing, head of Phaout police outpost. The Sub-Inspector transferred five people including Major Naing Aung Aung aka Naing Aung from the MPDF to Mupon police station on June 24 and they are being charged of Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substance Law,” said a police official.

The police charged them under Section 19(a)/ 21 of the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substance Law.
