At least 7 people killed in Aungban crackdown

At least seven people are killed and seven other people are wounded in the crackdown in Aungban, Kalaw Township, Taunggyi District in southern Shan State today morning, sources said.

Security forces on 20 vehicles arrived and dispersed the protesters in Aungban and many protesters are wounded in the crackdown.

“There are a total of eight deaths in Aungban till 1 pm. One protester is died in Kalaw hospital. Six others are taken to Aungban police station. Seven wounded persons are sent to Kalaw hospital. I don’t know how many wounded persons in Aungban. A person, who has been hit at neck, is sent to emergency ward in Kalaw hospital,” said a person from social welfare association.

About 17 protesters have been detained in Aungban in recent days and five of them are released. The rest of them are charged under Section 505 of the Penal Code.

About 40 people have been detained in Tanuggyi till now and it is not known about their charges yet.
