The regions with peace and stability will enjoy development, but any acts to cause regional instability by picking up arms will affect regional progress, said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the State Administration Council.

He made the remark during a meeting with townspeople from Bagan ancient cultural region, NyaungU District, Mandalay Region, and departmental officials of NyaungU, Pakokku, Myingyan, Minbu and Magway districts, at Bagan Archaeological Museum on August 27.

Regarding politics, he said: “We are working for the nation’s affairs, not for political purposes. Therefore, all the people need to join the efforts for national development. The regions with peace and stability will enjoy development, but any acts to cause regional instability by picking up arms will affect regional progress. All are therefore urged to work together for regional development.”

Farming is a business related to every person in Myanmar, which is an agro-based country. Farming industry produces food and generates income. Systematization of the industry will generate more benefits. Districts now have farming technological high schools that are producing human resources required for the industry’s modernization. A plan to open farming technological institutes is underway, and the establishment of universities for this field is the ultimate goal. It is also a practical program for human resources development. As the government is implementing education promotion programs, officials should strive to develop the industry and to increase the number of educated persons in the area, the Senior General said.

He also stressed the need to have legal knowledge as Myanmar is a democratic country. Therefore, legal subjects are being taught at the universities. He then urged the people to have an economic outlook for their socio-economic progress as the universities also teach economic subjects.

As for the tourism sector, he said Myanmar sees less foreign visitors due to the sanctions and political motives by dissuading foreign tourists from coming to country.  As the country still have weaknesses in providing services, the local people need to ensure the convenience of both local and foreign visitors to the region in providing them with accommodation, meals and transport, he added.

In conclusion, the SAC chair called for effective use of river water in agricultural and livestock breeding businesses as Mandalay and Magway regions are blessed with water resources. He also urged the officials concerned to take supervisory measures for regional peace and stability.
