Stability, development, democracy and federal state are the foundations to have eternal peace and the government, army and all ethnic armed groups are responsible if it isn’t achieved, said Col. Khun Oakkar, Patron of Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) in a launching ceremony to introduce a book published by Myanmar Institute and Peace Security (MIPS) held at Yangon on December 17.

People and all ethnics hopes for peace but ethnic people are mostly suffering from the conflicts. They are getting killed by deserters, land mines and armed groups, he said.

“People want stability to be restored. We have to try to have eternal peace if we have even consider a little for them. We cannot blame just one single group. We all have to take responsibilities. We cannot abstain from our responsibilities,” said the patron.

The obstacles to obtain eternal peace are granting greater autonomy, to prevent secession and to unite all armed forces under a single army in the country. The three issues are intertwined and is a complex puzzle as it is not easy to solve all three issues at once, he said.

He added that the present government have been welcoming towards solving these issues but the representatives of the army and ethnic armed groups have conflicting views on those issues.

“On the other hand, the army is firm in their stance and it will hinder the peace process as the peace talks are halted,” he said.

The book wrote about the issues related with the rejection of secession, single army and autonomy in each section and it is exceptionally good to explain to solve the issues, he said.
