Alcohol consumption kills over three million people a year

More than 3.3 million people die of alcohol consumption in the globe including Myanmar every year, according to the WHO.

An official of the Public Health Department said: “According to the surveys, alcohol addicts consume colourless alcoholic spirit every day. Foreign Alcoholic Liquors are expensive. Low-income people have to drink cheaper colourless alcoholic spirit as they have to consume it daily. Now the alcohol consumption rate has increased in South East Asia. Beyond 2014, low-quality alcohols are rampant in South East Asia. Those who consume high-quality alcohols have lower chance of being harmful to their heath. Alcohol consumption among youths in Myanmar has increased rapidly. About 70 per cent of alcohols are low-quality.”

About 41 million populations die of non-infectious diseases around the world every year. It accounts for about 71 per cent of the global deaths. Every year, 15 million people aged between 30 and 69 faces untimely deaths. About 85 per cent of untimely deaths are from low-income developing countries. The major cause of deaths is due to heart and cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic lung disease and diabetes.

In order to control the main causes of non-infectious diseases more effectively, the Ministry of Health and Sports will draft a separate plan.
