The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) will give talks human rights at seven universities and colleges in Mon and Kayin states from 15 to 23 January, said Aung Myo Kyaw, In-charge of AAPP based in Myanmar.

Human rights talks will be held at Hpa-an Technological High School in Kayin State on January 15, Mawlamyine Government Technical Institute in Mon State on January 16, Thaton University of Computer Science on January 17, Mawlamyine Education College on January 18, Mawlamyine Government Technical High School on January 21, Mawlamyine University on January 22 and Mawlamyine Technological University on January 23.

"Students are future leaders of a country. So they must know human rights when they lead their country. They have to respect the rights of others. They must be leaders who protect the rights of their citizens. For that objective, we hold such talks," said Aung Myo Kyaw.

He said San Wint Khaing, Mon state minister for Pa-O ethnic affairs, was a main coordinator for the plan to give human rights talks.

Five instructors will give human rights lectures by taking about three hours for a university each day.

AAPP was established with former political prisoners in Mae Sot in 2000. The association focuses on giving human rights. It conducted talks at 127 high schools in 10 townships of Mon State last year.
