A passenger bus from Yangon-Kyaukphyu bus line is plunged into a ravine in Ramree Township killing four and injuring five, sources said.

The injured people are sent to the hospital.

“Three males and one female including a two and half year old baby are died in the accident and we are performing search and rescue operation. We don’t know why the bus plunged into the ravine. The bus lay on its side in the ravine about 40 feet in depth,” said Soe Thein.

A total of 22 passengers were on board the bus and it skidded off at a corner to plunge into the ravine. Some were died as the bus lay on its side blocking the exit.

“The bus arrived in Toungup at 2 am and left. It arrived here around 4:30 am. The driver said the bus plunged into the ravine as he avoided a motorcycle. We detained the driver,” said a police officer from Ramree police station.

The police lodged a complaint against the bus driver under Section 304(a)/ 338/ 279 of the Penal Code at Ramree police station.
