A Nay Pyi Taw based reporter found infected with COVID-19

One out of 36 reporters based in Nay Pyi Taw, who attended the press conference held in Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on September 4, is found infected with COVID-19 virus, announced President Office on September 12.

The authorities took a swab test on the reporters arranged by the President Office as an assistant director from Presidential Palace was found infected with the virus on September 9.

“It is sad news that results of all reporters came out negative except a reporter. But all of them need to stay 14-day home quarantine. We will inform them in time if we need more swab test,” said Zaw Htay, Spokesperson of the President Office.

The swab test was made at Jade City Hotel located in Nay Pyi Taw hotel zone 3 on September 10.

A total of 11 government staffs, who house the same office with the positive patient, are resulted in negative, sources said.

“Wife of the assistant director is infected with the virus and all 53 staffs from the Presidential Palace and other offices related with the Presidential Palace are tested negative. They need to stay 14-day home quarantine,” said the spokesperson.

Officials from the President Office including the President and State Counsellor are tested negative, he added.

Departments in the Presidential Palace are still running regularly with half of the staffs daily. The President and State Counsellor are in good health and they are performing their duties, said the spokesperson.
