A General Strike Committee (GSC) has been formed for the fight against dictatorship, made out of party members from a total of 25 groups including the Saffron Monks network, the National League for Democracy, New Society Democratic Party and National Unity Party.

The GSC says in the statement that it was formed to focus cooperation against dictatorship from the people's movement, to remove the 2008 constitution and for a federal union to be formed.

Sayadaw U SandarThiri from the Saffron Monks Network say that they will be working to unite splinters and pockets of protestors.

"We take it that if we are disunited this way, it makes it weak. That is why we formed this committee in order to focus all the people under one banner so that they can shout and request for the same things," said U Sandar Thiri.

The GSC says that it respects the vote of the people in the 2020 general election and that they will strive to remove the 2008 constitution that always allows military dictatorship and military might to hold sway over the nation legally.

It will also work toward the release of all detained leaders and for a truly federal democratic future.

As protests and military crack downs rages across the nation following the coup by the military on February 1, the GSC has been formed. Within the committee, there are also the All Burma Federation of Student Unions and all other strike committees from schools such as the strike committee for all medical university students as well as lawyers.
